Pay What You Want

I am all about people having access to work out the way they want to. No frills gyms are popping up all over the place with super cheap memberships, there are fitness apps you can download onto your phone for pennies – it’s getting easier and easier to work out for less. However, there are still a lot of classes that are out of people’s financial reach.

A new website aims to put an end to that. U Pay What They Deserve does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a new listings site, where you can pay what you want for the services listed. There are a few fitness classes listed already, including an Insanity style one. You simply rock up, take the class and pay what you think it was worth.

This is a great way to open fitness up to more people. And if you’re a fitness instructor, it’s a great way to attract more people to your class, so get in touch with them if you’d like to put a listing on there.

While I am all for a bargain and getting fit for free wherever possible, I do worry that we expect things to be cheaper than they reasonably should be sometimes. After all, a instructor is likely to have spent a lot of time and money on training up, marketing, networking, hiring space – plus the extra risk involved financially if they’re a freelancer/self employed. I think mostly people underestimate how much time/money/effort went into something, because they just see the hour that the instructor spends in the class itself and not everything they have to do before/around that. I never really thought about this myself until I stumbled across this article recently – Food for thought!
